LGBTIQA+ affirming Healthcare Providers

Home / Resources For / LGBTIQA+ / Health and Wellness / LGBTIQA+ affirming Healthcare Providers

This listing attempts to compile contact information of medical doctors and mental health professionals (including psychiatrists, counseling psychologists and clinical social workers) who have been recommended by clients from the LGBTIQA+ community as professionals who affirm their orientations/identities. It is Chennai-centric, but we are trying to add resources from other cities and towns in India. Additional Notes:

  • This list is mostly based on word-of-mouth from community members and/or the stated willingness of providers. Orinam does not provide any endorsement of the services.
  • When we use the term queer-affirmative or LGBTIQA+ affirmative we at Orinam are not referring necessarily to a  practitioners who has been trained in a particular course
  • Bear in mind that client satisfaction can vary across clients consulting the same provider. For example, a gay client may find their orientation affirmed but a bi or pan client may not find their orientation and/or identity affirmed by the same provider. Also not all LGB- affirming providers are necessarily trans-affirming; some trans-affirming providers may be unable to affirm non-binary identities, etc.
  • Many of the providers linked below consult at multiple locations. Mention of a particular hospital/clinic does not imply an endorsement of that facility over others. We do not accept ads, paid or otherwise.
  • If you are LGBTIQA+ and would like to add a provider to this list, please let us know.
  • The ‘References from’ section mentions the identity of the person(s) who referred the provider. It doesn’t mean that the provider only sees clients of that (sub-) group
  • If you are a health-care provider mentioned here, and would like to be removed from this list, please drop us a note.
  • Please also refer to the Varta-Grindr-SAATHII locator and the Safe Access directory for additional queer-friendly health and legal resources in the country.
  • For the state of Kerala, please refer Queerala’s listing of queer-friendly psychologists and psychiatrists here.
