Date Extension for Comments on MSJE Transgender Rights Bill

Extension of deadline from Jan 4 to Jan 14, 2016: The Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment (MSJE), Government of India, has sought comments on the Rights of Transgender Persons Bill, 2015. The full text of the bill is available here. Adding a third gender or “T” category does not suffice to make the Ministry of External Affairs NALSA-compliant if it stills requires proof of surgery for recording a change of gender. Further, not all transgender people seek to identify as “T”, and are at liberty to identify as M or F, per the judgement.
