The TV9 debacle
On Tuesday Feb 22, 2011, TV9’s Hyderabad station aired a tasteless, homophobic and dangerous ‘expose’ of Hyderabad’s gay scene. With shots of a private party at a three-star hotel, it then moved on to talking about PlanetRomeo and proceeded to show screen shots of profiles. It then relayed the audio-track of a call made by the TV to a couple of guys, ostensibly for hooking up, but really as part of their disgusting entrapment agenda.
Within hours, the news and the YouTube link of this episode had gone viral on Facebook pages and mailing lists; the YouTube page had received over a 100 ‘dislikes’ and had been flagged as inappropriate, resulting in its removal by the YouTube admin.
Stay tuned for updates on further action, including protests in multiple cities, and interventions with the National News broadcasters Association whose ethics codes have been clearly violated by this ignominious TV9 episode.
