Chennai invites you to its 5th annual Rainbow Pride march on Sunday, June 30, 2013. Timing and venue will be posted soon.

Looking forward to a big turnout at the Pride march. Apart from Chennai residents, people are expected to arrive – and some will arrive Sunday – from Auroville, Bangalore, Hyderabad, Kumbakonam, and Mumbai. We also expect ally groups and students groups to join, besides the community groups and NGOs marching as the Chennai Rainbow Coalition.
We will have placards in Tamil, English, and some in Marathi, Telugu and Odiya, reflecting languages known to volunteers at the placard-making event.
If you are asked for quotes by the media, please consider sticking to one or more points from the Tamil-English note (modified from the press release). That will allow us to be consistent in our messaging. Click here to download the one-pager.
For those of you who want to march but hesitate to reveal your faces for various reasons, there will be masks available. Those who who want to pick up masks are asked to reach the venue earlier.
Water will be available at the venue, but feel free to bring your own, and to dispose of your trash in bins located on the venue. The official written police permission for the march will be obtained by the organizers.

சென்னை வானவில் பேரணிக்கு அணிதிரண்டு நீங்கள் எல்லோரும் வருவீர்கள் என்று எதிர்பார்க்கிறோம். சென்னைவாசிகள் மட்டுமின்றி – ஆரோவில், ஹைதராபாத், பெங்களூரு, கும்பகோணம், மும்பை – என்று பல நகரங்களிலிருந்து நண்பர்கள் பேரணியில் பங்கேற்க வருவார்கள். சிலர் ஞாயிறு காலை வந்து சேர்வார்கள். நம் சமூகத்தினர், நம் நண்பர்கள் மட்டுமின்றி, தனியார் நிறுவனத்தின் பணியாளர்களும், பதினெட்டுக்கும் மேற்ப்பட்ட தொண்டு நிறுவனங்களும், என்.ஜி.ஒ நிறுவனங்களும் சென்னை வானவில் கூட்டணியுடன் இனைந்து, பேரணியில் பங்குபெற இருக்கிறார்கள்.
தமிழ் தவிர, ஆங்கிலம், ஓடியா, மராத்தி, தெலுங்கு என்று பல மொழிகளில் பலகைகள், போஸ்டர்கள் தயாரிக்கப்படும்.
பேரணியில் மீடியா நண்பர்கள் உங்களிடம் கேள்விகள், கருத்துக்கள் கேட்டால், தயவுசெய்து சென்னை வானவில் கூட்டணியின் மீடியா ரிலீசில் இருக்கும் கோரிக்கைகளை விவரியுங்கள் (கோப்பு இணைக்கப்பட்டுள்ளது. தமிழ், மற்றும் ஆங்கிலத்திலும்.) இது நம் எல்லோரும் ஒரே குரலில், ஒருமித்து நமது கோரிக்கைகளை வலியுறத்த மிகவும் உதவும்.

Chennai pride is an annual event celebrating lesbian, gay, bisexual, and transgender (LGBT) culture. Chennai pride demonstrates the strength and solidarity of LGBT community and also lends local visibility to the voices, struggles and cultures of LGBT people.
Why should I be part of Chennai pride?
If you are Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender or queer, this is a great opportunity to stand together with the community and express to the society how proud you are about what you are. If you are a straight ally this is an opportunity to stand in support and solidarity to your friends and family. This is an opportunity for everyone to show the determination and commitment towards human rights, humanity, equality and social justice.
Is it safe to join the pride march at the beach?
Absolutely. Pride march is conducted with proper permission from the police department and is a very peaceful event. Your presence at the march will help the society understand better that nobody is ‘different’ and everyone needs to be treated fairly and equally. If you are worried about revealing your identity, you can wear face mask that will be handed out during the march.
